Peer Software Teams with Würth Elektronik to Accelerate Global Engineering Collaboration

September 1, 2026

Global electronics manufacturer empowers engineers across three continents with secure access to CAD files in seconds, eliminating version conflicts and enhancing resiliency

Peer Software, a leading provider of enterprise file services and data management solutions, today announced customer success results from Würth Elektronik’s deployment of PeerGFS, enabling the global electronics manufacturer to provide fast, reliable access to engineering files across North America, Europe and Asia while protecting file integrity for mission-critical CAD workflows.

With approximately 2,000 employees across the U.S., Germany and China, Würth Elektronik relies on engineering teams collaborating across multiple locations using AutoCAD and SolidWorks. As datasets grew and global collaboration increased, the company required a solution that would provide local-speed file access while ensuring engineers were always working from the latest version of every file.

“Performance wasn’t our only concern. File integrity was equally critical. When engineers in different regions access the same files simultaneously without proper file locking, conflicting versions can corrupt work, delay projects, and undermine confidence in shared data. We needed a solution that could enforce consistent file locking across every server location, not just within a single site,” said Greg Foley, IT Manager at Würth Elektronik.

PeerGFS synchronizes approximately 800 GB of active engineering data in real time across four Windows-based file servers spanning three continents. The platform provides distributed file locking to prevent conflicting edits, centralized management and built-in high availability, allowing project teams to collaborate without delays or data integrity concerns.

“Engineering organizations can’t afford to have productivity slowed by waiting for files or dealing with version conflicts,” said Jimmy Tam, CEO, Peer Software. “Global manufacturers need their data available where work is happening while maintaining a single source of truth. We’re proud to help Würth Elektronik deliver that experience for its engineering teams around the world.”

Prior to deploying PeerGFS, engineers accessing CAD files from a centralized server could wait more than five minutes for files to open. Today, they access local replicas that load in seconds, dramatically improving productivity while ensuring reliable file locking across regions to prevent costly rework caused by overlapping changes.

The deployment has also strengthened operational resilience. Following a server failure in China, PeerGFS automatically synchronized current files back to the restored system after it reconnected, allowing Würth Elektronik to recover without data loss or manual intervention.
