The Challenge
Seeking an Alternative to Microsoft (MS) DFSR
Anton Paar originally engaged Peer Software to evaluate a replacement for MS-DFSR after discovering limitations during the COVID-19 pandemic, while employees worked remotely over VPNs. As the organization replicated files, errors occurred that were very difficult to diagnose and, in some cases, data was corrupted or lost. Resolving these issues took extra time and effort, impacting overall productivity. The IT team started looking for a more reliable alternative. Partway through the PeerGFS evaluation process, a cyberattack struck Anton Paar’s data and file servers. Most systems had to be taken offline. To accelerate recovery and build future resilience, the Peer Software engineering team paused the evaluation process. Instead they proposed to use the proven file replication and synchronization capabilities of PeerGFS to bring Anton Paar’s infrastructure back online.

Peer Software enabled Anton Paar to implement a distributed File Service across their 51 global Office and Production locations. PeerGFS offers Anton Paar rapid local access to project data and facilitates collaborationbetween different locations. The enhanced replication capabilities of PeerGFS enable Anton Paar to maintain a master data set from all Locations at their HQ DC and centralize the backup.
The company now leverages PeerGFS as intended, benefiting from a high-speed distributed file Service that supports replication across all global sites. It delivers robust high availability and streamlined performance monitoring.
