Primary Product Application
|
PeerSync Server runs directly off of the server and synchronizes from Desktop to
Server or Server-to-Server. It also allows for remote-to-remote synchronization.
|
Installation
|
PeerSync Server is installed directly on the server. With PeerSync Server Edition
installed on Windows OS, you can synchronize files between any network shared drive
including: Linux, Unix or NetWare.
|
Configuration
|
You configure PeerSync Server by selecting "Jobs" (a Job is a source-target
file backup/synchronization scenario). Each job can have its own unique set of options.
For example, one job can run in real-time, one can run every night at 12:00 and
exclude all Excel files, one can run every 10 minutes and use "bi-directional synchronization",
etc. PeerSync Server allows very precise control over each file synchronization/replication
operation.

Platform
|
Windows XP Home/XP Pro/Vista/7* Workstation, Windows 2000/2003/2008* Server, Windows NAS Applicance
OS. Runs on 32bit and 64bit Operating Systems
*The software will run on the above platforms, we encourage users to fully test the solution within their environment by donwloading a 15-day trial.
For Windows Vista/7 and 2008 OS please use the UAC version of executable

- Scheduled, i.e. every Monday and Friday at 12:00 am
- On Demand
- From a Desktop Shortcut
- From the Command Line
- At Startup
- As a True NT Service

Licensing
|
One PeerSync Server License can be purchased alongside x number of remote connection
licenses allowing you to install PeerSync Server on machine A and connect to machines B, C, D etc. No software
is required on the remote machines. From A, files can be sent to B, C etc., pulled back from B,C etc. and swapped between B & C. Remote
connection licenses (servers B, C, D, E, F etc.) can be purchased for $249.00
each. Peer Software's "Remote Connection Licensing" model is unmatched in the software
industry. All competing products require a license on each machine, greatly increasing
cost and administration complexity.

Overview of Features
|
PeerSync Server contains all the features of PeerSync Workstation, including:
- File Synchronization:
New or updated files are copied from a source location to a target location. Only
files that are new or changed are copied.
- File Replication:
This is the same as File Synchronization with the added feature of deletions. If
a file is deleted off the source, it will also be deleted from the target. This
is a powerful feature for managing space and clutter.
- Intelligent File Deletion:
Replicated or deleted files can be permanently deleted with this feature, or sent
to a user-specified "temporary" or "deletions" folder. Files are held in the "temporary"
or "deletions" folder and you can set them to be automatically deleted after a specified
number of days. This is a powerful feature for managing storage space, and providing
protection from accidental deletions.
- Bi-Directional File Synchronization:
This allows files to be synchronized in both directions between multiple machines.
- Compression:
At the file or folder level, compressed files can be password protected. Compressing
files can greatly reduce file transfer times.
- Option to Transfer NT File/Folder Security Descriptions (ACLs).
- File Failure Retry and Connection Loss Detection:
This allows PeerSync to monitor connections that have failed, as well as files that
have failed to copy, and allows a specified amount of retries on a specified interval
to be made.
- Administrative Summaries:
These reports provide you with a way to summarize activity across a set of servers,
so you don't have to look at what has happened on each server individually.
- Unicode File Synchronization:
PeerSync Server allows you to synchronize files containing Unicode (Mac) and
Asian characters.
- Bandwidth Throttling:
This is a performance-enhancing feature. Based on the timing of actual packets sent
and received, PeerSync dynamically adjusts the timing between packets sent to optimize
bandwidth utilization.
- Advanced Reporting:
These options allow log files, administrative summaries, and email reporting to
be configured for individual folders/jobs.
- File-Revisioning:
This feature keeps a specified number of backup copies of a file.
- Import Variables such as Folder Path, Log File Names and Deletion Folders:
Importing variables permits you to implement a faster way to handle a number of
similar jobs.
- Files/Folders Included or Excluded:
This is done via extensive filtering capabilities.
- Support for UNC file/path names:
This includes dynamic mapped drive creation, as well as local drives.
- Enhanced Service Control/Display:
This allows you the ability to monitor PeerSync Server when running it as a
service.
- Blackout Setting:
This feature gives the ability to blackout certain times of the day when data can
be collected in real-time (from local folders) and processed only when the blackout
period has ended. This feature will optimize nightly syncs as it will eliminate
the time-consuming comparison and overhead processing of a scheduled scan.
- PeerSync Observer:
From your desktop, you can monitor the activities of computers running PeerSync
Server across a network. This allows you to see how PeerSync Server is
doing on other servers without having to remotely log into each separate server.
- Profile Display Options:
These can be set to display at different levels: Basic through Advanced.
- The PeerSync Profiler:
This feature gives PeerSync Server a powerful and easy-to-use GUI interface.
- Application Priority Setting:
By default PeerSync Server is designed to run in the background with minimal
impact on other applications and processes. Additionally, PeerSync offers 4 application
priority settings from Low to High.
- Increase Read/Write Buffer size to 1 Mb:
This option allows you to more efficiently handle very large files when you are using
very high bandwidth.
PeerSync Server also contains the following features, not contained in PeerSync
Workstation:
- Remote Drive File Synchronization:
PeerSync Server allows synchronization between remote drives.
- Pricing:
$599.00 per license.
